Successful e-car model will soon have a larger battery

For many e-car manufacturers, increasing range is the order of the day. Hyundai is no exception. The electric success model of the South Koreans, the Ioniq 5, should therefore soon receive a kilometer upgrade.

The South Korean carmaker can be quite satisfied with the first electric model that has been on the market for around a year. Most recently, for example, the title of “German Car of the Year 2022” was secured. now Hyundai gives an outlook on how to proceed.

Ioniq 5 pimped: Hyundai gives e-car a stronger battery

The highlight of the 2023 model year will be the larger battery. Hyundai is planning the Ioniq 5 on a 77.4 kWh battery to set (source: Hyundai). The same size can also be found in the Kia EV6, which also belongs to the Hyundai Group – more about the electric Kia in our test. So far, the Ioniq 5 has been available in versions with a 58 or 72.6 kWh battery.

It is unlikely that a third version will be brought to market. The performance upgrade is also too small for that. We can assume that the more powerful version is more likely to be replaced. It is still unclear how large the increase in range will be with a new battery, because Hyundai does not provide any information here. With the Kia EV6, it is enough for a maximum of 528 km according to the WLTP standard.

A huge plus is therefore not to be expected with the Ioniq 5, but a noticeable one. So far, 481 km is the end. The range cannot be directly transferred from one model to another, since the Kia EV6 and Ioniq 5 are not nearly identical in construction The 500 km limit should also fall on the Hyundai.

In addition to the battery upgrade, an optional digital rear-view mirror is to be added, and the exterior mirrors can also be optionally replaced with cameras. This will also reduce air resistance.
