Success streamer gets even better – but there’s a catch

Kia takes on an impossible task: how to make the best car of 2022 even better? The answer should be the EV6 GT, for which the manufacturer has now revealed all the details and the final price. But does the plan work?

Kia pimps successful e-car: The EV6 GT can do that

With the EV6, Kia has built the car of the year 2022. The Stromer did well in our test and is considered one of the best electric cars currently available. But that shouldn’t be the end of it. E-car fans can now order the sportier offshoot EV6 GT, as Kia has announced. It should combine the best features of the well-known EV6 with even more power.

The increase in performance is noticeable, for example, at the top speed: it only ends at 260 km/h. From a standing start, the sporty Stromer needs 3.5 seconds to reach 100 km/h. This is mainly due to the new electric motor on the rear axle. While everything stays the same at the front, there is more thrust here. If you want to fully enjoy this, you can use drift mode direct up to 100 percent of the drive energy exclusively to the rear axle.

Lease an e-car and collect a bonus of €6,000

Externally, the EV6 GT is a bit sportier. The front and rear have been slightly revised, the overall impression is still effective a bit slimmer, more lively, even though the EV6 is decidedly sporty for a crossover.

One stays true to the old virtues with 800-volt charging technology, which should charge the battery from 10 to 80 percent in 18 minutes under perfect conditions. The only drawback: the battery also remains the same. With the higher performance, this is noticeable with a slightly shorter range: As planned, 424 km should be possible with one battery charge.

Has earned its spurs: the car of the year 2022 Kia EV6.

70,000 euros for the Kia EV6 GT: bad chances for an environmental bonus

However, customers have to accept a price increase: Instead of the originally planned price of around 65,000 euros, the EV6 GT starts instead for 69,990 euros. If you have around 70,000 euros for the sporty EV6, you probably don’t need to worry too much if the funding is low. Nevertheless, Kia plays with open cards – and that’s important. You want the first vehicles deliver in 2022, but there is no guarantee of that. Kia writes: The base price “is reduced in accordance with the subsidy regulations applicable at the time of approval”. If you’re very lucky, you could still look forward to an environmental bonus of 9,000 euros, but that shouldn’t work for most customers.
