Subscribers put new blockbusters through their paces

In recent years, Disney has repeatedly tried to revive some of its most well-known classics such as The Lion King, Mulan and Aladdin. Now the adaptation of Peter Pan & Wendy is available exclusively to Disney+ subscribers. However, the live-action version completely fails the audience.

Peter Pan & Wendy fails Disney+ viewers

A black day for Disney. With the new live-action adaptation of Peter Pan & Wendy wanted to enchant Disney+ subscribers. But the new strip doesn’t come off well with them – that’s proven by the current audience score of the film Rotten Tomatoes. This is included a lousy 13 percent – a disastrous result. Due to the diverse casts, review bombing should also play a role in this rating, but the fans also complain that the film is simply too dark and too serious for them.

Critics’ ratings are more gracious – the tomatometer is at 64 percent. Visually, the live-action adaptation of the classic seems to look good, but the film lacks that spark of magic that enchanted many viewers of the classic at the time.

Disney+ overtakes Netflix in Germany

Even if Peter Pan & Wendy turns out to be a flop for Disney, the company still has a reason to celebrate. According to the latest market research results, Disney+ managed to overtake Netflix in the German streaming market in the last quarter. Disney+’s market share is currently 14.6 percent, while Netflix has to be satisfied with 12.8 percent.

Disney+ can still only secure the silver medal with this result. Because Amazon is still ahead with Prime Video, which feels uncatchable. The online giant’s streaming service has a market share of 37.7 percent in Germany.

However, Disney+ appears to be growing its subscriber base month-on-month. It is quite possible that the streaming service will also fight for the crown in Germany in a few years with Amazon.
