Streaming is getting more and more expensive – and that’s annoying!

With more and more streaming services springing up, more and more subscriptions are needed to watch the big shows and movies – and that can get expensive! If you take out other subscriptions apart from Netflix and Amazon Prime, you shouldn’t be surprised if you quickly have to pay 70 euros per month. When will it finally stop?

The streaming landscape is expanding, little by little. What could be seen positively in the face of Netflix’s disappearing monopoly position means subscriptions to streaming services such as Paramount+, Sky or Discovery+ for film and series lovers. Some of them have not yet been released in Germany, but their releases are still planned for 2022.

As soon as that happens, series and films from the respective owners will be played on their own streaming service. Like the fourth season of Star Trek: Discovery, which has disappeared from Netflix’s schedule to be streamed now on Sky, Pluto TV and later on Paramount+. Pluto TV is a free internet channel, so Star Trek: Discovery season 4 can be watched for free – but only at the right time and with advertising, just like a regular TV channel.

All other Star Trek seasons and series will of course appear on Paramount+, and not for free.

The math is simple: If your favorite franchise or long-awaited series and films suddenly come with a new streaming provider, you have to dig into your pocket and subscribe. Sure, one is possible short subscriptionwhich you cancel after a month, or tickets, which you only buy for one series. Of course, only if the new streaming service also offers it. Either way – more and more streaming services are needed to be able to stream all popular series and films. 12 euros a month is not enough. But how much is enough?

What you have to spend to stream the most popular series and films in 2022

A little mind game: Robin is a film and series fan and likes to watch all the new blockbuster series and films of the year. Netflix has been subscribed to for ages, of course, Amazon Prime stays on the subscription due to other Prime benefits like free shipping. Disney+ has been around for a long time because Robin is a Marvel fan and also watches other things on Disney+. Sky and Apple TV+ have also crept in, although Robin is slowly losing track and can’t watch as much as subscribed to.

Despite it! Long-awaited films and series appear again and again on Sky or Apple TV+. After much deliberation, Robin cancels the subscription to Apple TV+, but Sky stays. However, 2022 begins with more new streaming services – Paramount+ is coming and when it comes out, Robin gets the streaming station because Robin wants to see the new Star Trek series and Halo. Later they also subscribe to Discovery+ because all the good animal documentaries have gone from Netflix and are coming there now.

Robin is already afraid that HBO Max will soon appear in Germany with the new Game of Thrones series and can no longer be streamed via Sky.

What Robin is paying per month for streaming services at the end of 2022:

Robin will pay for films and series at the end of 2022 70.97 euros in the month.

Everything doesn’t have to be – but how much does it have to be?

Even with Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+, Crunchyroll and Paramount+ you are at 46.96 euros. The problem here, among other things, is that these services do not differ according to genre and taste – apart from maybe Crunchyroll – but after production companies and all-in providers, with those production company services such as Disney + or Paramount + taking the films and series from the all-in providers. In short: If your taste doesn’t depend on the production companies, you will soon have to pay a lot more or even have to do without some things.

But is 70 euros a reasonable price for streaming? And how much will it be in 2023? Or a year later? Streaming works and streaming is replacing television as it used to be known. But when more and more production companies and corporations set up their own streaming platforms, there will soon be nothing left on Netflix. Viewers can then choose from 20 or 30 providers who Everyone offer good series and films in all possible genres. Does this work at all? What happens if the users are missing? Will Netflix trample them all because the concept of production house services doesn’t work? Disney+ says otherwise, and HBO Max works beautifully within the US.

Is streaming going to be the new TV, only you just pay for each channel? Or will there be all-round packages like the numerous Sky packages? The future is of course uncertain, but the distribution of new, hyped series on a wide variety of new streaming services is annoying, especially when series start on Netflix, but the next season is suddenly supposed to cost 10 euros a month from a new provider.

There is no solution, but I personally cannot and will not subscribe to five to ten different streaming services. Finally there remains the possibility of some To buy series via Sky ticket or on Amazon for streaming, possibly some time after the release. Everything else then has to be dispensed with – what else is left?
