Steam Deck uses a dynamic cloud for stored positions -apkrig

In just a month, they have separated the players from the opportunity to finally start playing on the Steam Deck, and according to the latest reports from Valve, it is clear that the company is trying to prepare for the launch as best it can. Last week, he came up with a system that should make it easy to find out how a title is ready to play on the go. Valve is now talking about improved title synchronization using the cloud, which could work to some extent as a Quick Resume on the Xbox.

Since it is likely that the individual titles on the Steam Deck will not be completed by the players, but will rely only on the sleep of the entire device, it was necessary to intervene in the operation of the synchronization.

Synchronization of stored positions, which are uploaded to the allocated space in the cloud, is not for Valve, resp. Steam nothing new. If you have the feature turned on and the game supports it, you can safely continue playing on another computer without having to transfer saved positions manually. Just turn off the game and then the data will be synchronized in the cloud. In the case of Steam Deck, however, according to people from Valve, there is room for a slightly different approach, which is specific to handheld devices. Because it is likely that the individual titles on the Steam Deck will not be completed by the players, but will rely only on the sleep of the entire device when they no longer want or can continue for any reason, it was necessary to intervene in the operation of the synchronization.

“With Dynamic Cloud Sync, Steam automatically uploads all stored game data to the cloud before the device goes to sleep. Users can then continue to play on any computer, laptop or other device, ”explains Valve representatives in a report to the developers. Of course, everything will work the other way around, ie the moment the Steam Deck player wakes up again, Steam will automatically check the saved positions and download newer ones if it finds one in the cloud. Logically, this means that Steam Deck will need to run online, and developers will also need to use the appropriate API, which will not – at least for now – be a condition.

However, Valve encourages developers to implement the free feature in their games to give players the opportunity to enjoy the convenience. They also add that if developers for some reason decide not to use Dynamic Cloud Sync, Steam will still check the status of stored positions in the cloud in the background, and if a player wants to continue playing the same game on another device, they will be notified that the same game was running even on the Steam Deck and the saved position is out of date. Steam on a PC or other device will also point out at that point that it is necessary to turn off the game on the Steam Deck – and thus force a standard sync – or continue from an outdated position.
