Stage Manager only on iPad M1: Apple explains itself once again

Stage Manager is one of the new features of iPadOS 16 which is only available on iPads with an M1 chip. As you might expect, those who have a recent tablet but don’t have the M1 chip are disappointed. Apple explains once again on the subject.

Stage Manager allows users to resize applications in overlapping windows for an enhanced multitasking experience. The feature also supports an external display, allowing users to work with up to eight apps simultaneously (up to four apps on the iPad and up to four apps on the external display).

A few days ago, Apple indicated that Stage Manager was only available on iPad M1 because the chip manages virtual memory swap, namely the exchange of virtual memory. Apple explains itself once again today and declared :

Stage Manager is a fully integrated experience that delivers an all-new windowing experience that’s incredibly fast and responsive, and allows users to run 8 apps simultaneously on the iPad and up to 6K resolution external display. To deliver that experience with the immediacy that users expect from the touchscreen experience of the iPad, it takes massive internal memory, blazingly fast storage, and flexible external display input/output, all of which iPads equipped with the M1 chip.

An iPad Pro with the M1 chip can have up to 16GB of RAM. By comparison, the previous iPad Pro has 6GB of RAM. Also, the new models have twice the storage speed of the older generation. This all comes into play for the new feature.
