Spotify has modified the interface of its browser and desktop version. The streaming service itself calls it one of the biggest changes and innovations to date. For example, some sections and menus have been redesigned and listening and discovering music should become easier.

New Spotify desktop version
Spotify comes with a new design for desktop, for both the app and the browser. The streaming service reports this in a message. Spotify itself calls it the ‘three column design’ which consists of – you guessed it – three columns. In the leftmost column you will find your library. This includes your playlists, albums, podcast and downloads. This one seems to be taken one-to-one from the Spotify app for iOS and Android. The entire new design must also be more in line with the app and ensure a more uniform appearance.
In the middle you will also find the main menu where you can continue to discover new music or podcasts. In the right column you get more information about the artist or about the song you are listening to. It also contains any announcements about merchandise and planned concerts by the artist. The interface adjustment for the desktop app and browser version is the umpteenth update that Spotify brings in a short time. For example, the streaming service was already more similar to TikTok and Instagram by adding more images, videos and vertical scrolling. With this, the Swedish company wanted to make its app more attractive and make it easier to discover new music.
However, all this caused a lot of negative reactions. In our opinion, the new layout, for example, caused the app to become one big mess where you could find music and podcasts much less well. Fortunately, this ”greatest evolution to date” has been partially halted. The old format is back. The updated design is currently being rolled out and should be available for the desktop app through an update. The browser version will get the update itself, so you don’t have to do anything yourself.
