Sony’s Xbox Game Pass competitor doesn’t stand a chance

A Sony subscription inferior to Xbox Game Pass may be coming to PlayStation soon.

Sony has reportedly been working on its own version of the Xbox Game Pass for some time, Bloomberg reported last year. Now the prices of project Spartacus have been leaked and it is clear: the PlayStation maker doesn’t stand a chance!

According to unconfirmed sources, the special pass for PlayStation owners will have a similar structure to the Xbox Game Pass. That means the current Plus subscription included and functions such as streaming, a large catalog of games and free titles.

But Sony is probably going to ask way too much for it, VentureBeat reports. For the most expensive subscription, Sony would ask $16, one dollar more than the current Xbox Game Pass. However, there are some significant differences in the return on investment.

Differ

Gamers with the unnamed Sony pass can stream, play classic and new games and test games for that money. Users also get free games through the PS+ subscription. It’s not clear if PC gamers can stream as well.

All of this is also available for the Xbox Game Pass. At the same time, customers of that subscription can also expect discounts, they will receive exclusive content and there are several exclusive games to play. Bethesda and EA, among others, currently offer their titles exclusively through the Game Pass. Not to mention the potential Steam integration!

In short, for less money, Xbox Game Pass buyers get more than with a Sony subscription. The differences are small, but undoubtedly noticeable for some target groups. It would get all dramatic if PS games not can be played on PC via the pass. In this way Sony effectively excludes a huge target group.
