Sony’s multiplayer option free for a limited time

Playing multiplayer with friends on PlayStation usually requires a PS Plus subscription. Next weekend, however, Sony Interactive Entertainment will also make it possible for non-subscribers to play online with friends.

Only with a PlayStation Plus subscription is it possible to play online with friends. This rule is suspended for a short time, so you have the opportunity to use this function from December 10th to 11th free to use. All you need is an internet connection and a PlayStation Network account to play Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 online, for example.

This isn’t the first time Sony has taken this action, but it may be an attempt to do so again more subscribers to win for himself. As recently as November, the company confirmed that its subscriber count had fallen by almost two million users since the new three-tier structure implemented in June (source: VGC).

PlayStation Plus: what does the service offer?

In case you haven’t dealt with it yet. There are now Essential, Extra and Premium three different versions:

1. PlayStation Plus Essential ($8.99 per month)

This subscription corresponds to the previous “PlayStation Plus” model. So includes online multiplayer, special in-store discounts, and monthly “free” games.

2. PlayStation Plus Extra (13.99 euros per month)

In addition to the Essential version, this subscription includes over 400 PS4 and PS5 games that you can download to your console.

3. PlayStation Plus Premium (17.99 euros per month)

This subscription includes all the benefits of the Essential and Extra versions, but also gives you access to more than 340 PlayStation classics from the PS1, PS2, PS3 and PSP era. However, PS3 games will only be streamable.
