Sony WH-1000XM4: A headphone purchase that is worthwhile

Released in September 2018, the Sony WH-1000XM4 is the improved successor to the Sony WH-1000XM3, which in turn is the successor to the Sony WH-1000XM2. At the market launch of the WH-1000XM4, Sony called for an RRP of 379 euros. In the meantime, the price level in retail has fallen, you normally don’t have to pay more than 300 euros.

The Japanese manufacturer has made small improvements in sound, comfort and noise cancellation with each generation, so that the Sony WH-1000XM4 is highly recommended overall. In terms of sound quality in particular, it is right at the top, and the variety of functions is also groundbreaking. We gave it a top rating in our detailed test report.

This puts the Sony flagship just ahead of the competitor Bose Noise Canceling Headphones 700. The Sony WH-1000XM4 sounds a little better, offers a wider range of features, has the best noise canceling and is almost as comfortable on the head. What might not please every user is the touch operation of the Sony WH-1000XM4, which takes some getting used to. Apart from that, as our test report shows, these are almost perfect headphones.
