Sony subsequently equips headphones with multipoint Bluetooth

In addition to sound, design, operation and wearing comfort, multipoint connections are an important feature that significantly enhances headphones. Sony will deliver it for selected models via firmware update from November.

It’s just a nondescript paragraph in a current issue Sony press release – but he has it all. The message is actually about the new “Earth Blue” color variant for the Linkbuds S headphones, which uses recycled granules from plastic water bottles.

At the end of the press release, however, there is still good news: All models of the LinkBuds Series must a software update in November 2022 get the feature support for Multipoint Bluetooth connections brings. Not only Linkbuds and Linkbuds S, but also the somewhat older true wireless top model Sony WF-1000XM4 (see GIGA test) will be equipped with multipoint “from this winter” according to the Japanese manufacturer. The function means that headphones with two devices connected at the same time can stay. Sony also gives an example: “For example, if the user is listening to music on the PC and a call comes in on the smartphone, the LinkBuds automatically switch to the call.” Multipoint is therefore an extremely useful detail in everyday life that saves time and trouble. Anyone who has connected their headphones to their cell phone, comes home and then sits down at their laptop probably knows the problem: First disconnect the cell phone, then reconnect it to the laptop – if it works right away. Since Multipoint Bluetooth is a real blessing.

In the flood of true wireless in-ears on the market, unique selling points are difficult to identify. The flying change from one player to another is one of those details that you should definitely pay attention to when buying. Apple users are familiar with a comparable feature when they are logged in to their devices (e.g. iPhone, iMac, Apple TV) with their Beats headphones or AirPods with the same Apple ID.
