Sony opens its own web stores for the sale of Playstation 5 consoles

Sony

Sony is going to do it itself and open web stores in the Netherlands for the sale of Playstation 5 consoles and hardware.

The company has started offering consoles through its own site in the Netherlands. Too bad, the Playstation 5 is just like everywhere not available. And that makes this a pretty rare move from Sony. Especially because you can’t place a reservation or end up in a queue.

Sony opens webshops for Playstation 5 consoles

The website has already gone live. Playstation Netherlands is of course very enthusiastic and says on Twitter that users can buy ‘different products’ in the online store. For example, consider a controller. The Playstation 4 is available, but actually we all want a PS5. And then it is a missed opportunity not to offer the console we are all waiting for when a new web store is launched.

By the way, this is not new. Sony already sells their products through its own web stores in America. Remarkably enough, it is possible to reserve a PS5 there. Perhaps they will also introduce this in the Netherlands. The company has previously announced that it will open its own online stores. This was revealed in a statement from the company to investors in May. So they have worked on it and the site is now online.

Deficiencies

Chip shortages remain a problem in console production. Add to this the huge demand and you have shortages. Sony has nothing to complain about the sales figures, they are equal to those of the PS4. However, then there were no shortages. The PS5 could have been sold much more, so there is definitely lost revenue. Bloomberg revealed that Sony could produce a million less consoles in the coming months due to the shortages.
