Sony headphones exploded after their owner made a critical mistake

Fortunately, it is not often that electronics cause dangerous problems. You’ve probably heard a lot of stories about exploding batteries in smartphones, laptops and other electronic devices.

These controversial moments suggest that we use electronic devices as we should. After all, safety is paramount, and if it’s not a manufacturing error, as in the case of the infamous Samsung Galaxy Note 7 series, the end user will most likely make the error. A certain owner of Sony wireless headphones could also say something about that.

Sony headphones didn’t just explode, the reason was mishandling

Don’t worry, the headphones didn’t explode in someone’s ears, as you might have thought from the beginning. It’s about the Sony WH-1000XM2, and their customer from China asked her son to charge her headset after arriving home late. The son plugged it into an outlet through the aircraft connection, with the intention of charging their battery.

However, the move became critical and high-quality, 300-euro headphones were instantly destroyed. Their construction was suddenly in flames. After this unfortunate accident, the boy had slight signs of burns on his right hand. By the way, the mentioned aircraft connection is used to connect to the audio system in the aircraft for a more comfortable flight, accompanied directly by the crew.

Sony has even emphasized on its website that this adapter should not be used to charge headphones, as this will destroy them. These people have tested it and we all probably already know that the headphones are charged via the USB terminal and in no case via the 3.5 mm audio jack. Interestingly, after this incident, the customer still dared to come to the store with a request for a complaint.

According to the GizmoChina website, the seller rejected it on the grounds that it was damage caused by improper handling of the electronics. But let’s face it, that connection to an airplane can convince really inexperienced people that it’s a charger adapter. Let’s hope that a lot of people will learn from this case, and at the same time the manufacturers will emphasize even more what belongs in the socket and what doesn’t.
