Sony begins rollout of Android 13 for Xperia 1 IV and 5 IV

For two smartphones, Sony has started rolling out the update to Android 13. The smartphones that will receive the update are the Xperia 1 IV and the Xperia 5 IV.

If we have to name one manufacturer that is completely unclear about the update policy, it is Sony. We only know that we can expect two Android updates and two years of security updates, but otherwise there is poor communication from the manufacturer. It is therefore secretly a surprise that Sony has apparently set the pace to make Android 13 available for some devices. As the third manufacturer (after OnePlus and Samsung), it is now Sony’s turn to roll out Android 13.

The update will first be distributed to the Xperia 1 IV and the Sony Xperia 5 IV, Sony said. This means that the Xperia 10 IV, announced at the same time as the 1 IV, will not receive the update immediately. We expect this to follow. We also expect the update to Android 13 for older Sony models. Due to poor communication from Sony, however, it is unknown which devices will receive the update when.

With Android 13, further improvements are made to the mobile operating system. Users get more privacy settings and even more color choices in the Material You skin, with the colors of the interface matching the colors of the background. Furthermore, in Android 13 you can set in which language you want to open which app. But there are more new features.

The update to Android 13 will now be rolled out to the two models from Sony. However, it may take some time until the update is available to everyone. You will receive a notification on your smartphone if this is the case.
