Son (14) of Tanja Jess in an honest conversation with his mother: ‘I throw pens through the class’
For GoStudent, a major provider of online tutoring, Dennis Weening talks to daughter Coco (13). Tanja Jess is in school with son Bobby (14).
Strict and grumpy
Dennis and Coco both know how important a good teacher is. “I find French very difficult”, confesses Coco. “But that woman is very strict and grumpy.” When Dennis warns her, because she might be watching, she adds: “She’s cute.” High school was not an easy time for Dennis. “I have ADHD and used to be very busy. […] A replacement teacher came and he thought I was an annoyingly busy little guy. And then he eventually went home himself, exhausted,” said the presenter. What Coco’s ideal teacher looks like? “You have to be strict sometimes, but if you start yelling, I don’t think that works.” Finally, when Coco asks her father if he is proud of her, he answers visibly emotionally: “I am incredibly proud of you.”

Tanja and her son Bobby also learn a lot about each other. For example, Bobby admits that he once skipped school and is sometimes expelled from class. “In maths once, with French really two or three times,” says the teenager. The reason? “I throw pencils around the classroom.” Tanja herself also has something to confess about her school days. “I was often late,” said the presenter. Whether Tanja is proud of her son? “I think you are very funny, very smart. Caring. Yes, I am very proud of you.”
