Save AirPods battery

Have a long day ahead of you, but you’re not sure if your AirPods’ battery will last all day? Then we have a few handy tips for you that will help you last even longer with a battery charge. This way you can be sure that you can enjoy your music for as long as possible!

1. Use one AirPod at a time

A handy way to last longer with your AirPods is to use only one earpiece at a time. You can then use an earpiece for (on average) six hours with a full battery charge. You then have a total of 12 hours of music from a charged set of AirPods. Of course you can also charge both earphones in the box to do even longer with your earphones.

If you only use one of your earphones each time, it is wise to first set that you play the same sound in both AirPods. Otherwise, you will only hear the left (or right) side of the music. To prevent this, you have to dive into the Settings.

This way you can play the same sound in both AirPods

  1. Go to ‘Settings’, scroll down and choose ‘Accessibility’;
  2. Scroll down and tap “Audio & Visual”;
  3. Turn on the function in the option ‘Mono sound’.

By the way, setting mono sound disables both spatial audio and head tracking.

2. Disable noise cancellation

The AirPods Pro and the AirPods Pro 2 have noise reduction (noise-cancelling) and (adaptive) transparency. By turning off these features, you can save the battery of your AirPods. This way you get about an hour of extra music pleasure from one battery charge.

To turn off noise control, squeeze the stems of the AirPods Pro or AirPods Pro 2. The earbuds then switch between noise reduction, transparency, and both functions are turned off. In addition, it is possible to disable the option on your iPhone. You do that in the following way.

  • Make sure your AirPods are connected to your iPhone;
  • Tap Settings > AirPods Pro from [naam]’;
  • Under “Noise Control,” tap “Off.”

3. Turn off head tracking

The AirPods 3, AirPods Pro, and AirPods Pro 2 all have head tracking. For example, if you watch a movie on your iPhone and turn your head left or right, it sounds like the voices are still coming from the direction of the smartphone.

This feature also eats up some extra battery life from your AirPods. By turning this feature off you can save some of your AirPods battery. You do that in the following way.

  • Connect your AirPods to your iPhone;
  • Swipe down from the top right edge of the screen to open Control Center. On an iPhone with Touch ID, swipe up from the bottom of the screen;
  • Tap and hold the volume bar with your finger;
  • Tap the blue Spatial Audio button on the right;
  • Choose the option ‘Off’.
