Smart watch sales up 35% year-over-year in the first quarter of 2021

Although smart watches are not as large a market as smartphones, their popularity continues to grow, which is confirmed by the statistics of the analytical company. Counterpoint Research. It published statistics on their sales for the first quarter of 2021.

The market is dominated by Apple, followed by Huawei

According to her, sales of smart watches increased by 35% in the first quarter compared to the same period a year ago. The market continues to be dominated by Apple, which has increased its share from 30.3% to 33.5%. That should be about 37.5 million units sold. The main part of this is the Apple Watch series 6 and the cheaper model Apple Watch SE.

Surprisingly, the second was still the Chinese manufacturer Huawei, which reduced its share from 10.1% to 8.4%. However, it should be noted that the new generation of its Huawei Watch 3 and Watch 3 Pro smart watches came on the market only two months ago, and only the previous generation was on the market in the first quarter. The same is true for Samsung, which reduced its stake from 8.5% to 8%. It wasn’t until this month that it unveiled its latest Galaxy Watch4 series watch.

The Chinese brand imoo finished in fourth place, with its watch having a market share of 5.1%. The popular manufacturer of professional fitness watches and bracelets Fitbit took fifth place. It accounted for 4.2% with 5.5 million units sold. The remaining smart watch manufacturers had a market share of 40.8%.

Google’s share of WearOS was just under 4 percent

The statistics of the share of individual operating systems for smart watches in Q1 2021 are also interesting. The watchOS system from Apple logically has the same share of 33.5% as the share of Apple Watches sold. In second place is TizenOS from Samsung with a share of 8%. LineOS from Huawei, which is otherwise the second best-selling manufacturer, is third with a share of 6.7%.

This is because not all Huawei watches use this system. Its share will soon fall even more sharply as the new generation of Huawei watches uses the new HarmonyOS system. Xiaomi’s Amazfit OS ranks fourth, followed by WearOS from Google with a 3.9% share. It should be noted that only an older version of WearOS was available in the first quarter. The table is closed by Fitbit OS and Garmin OS.
