Xiaomi is changing: customers have to adapt

Xiaomi is one of the largest smartphone manufacturers in the world. The Chinese company has now announced that it is shrinking the composition of its own product names. An important part, which is actually indispensable, is omitted. The Xiaomi Mix 4 has already hinted at it.

Xiaomi does without “Mi” in product names

Xiaomi products have been with us for years. Smartphones that came on the market always have a “Mi” in their name. Xiaomi Mi 9, Mi 10, Mi 11 and so on. But even televisions like the Xiaomi Mi TV or other products such as fans do not come without it “Mi” in the product name. If you currently want to buy something from Xiaomi in Germany, you do not go to a Xiaomi website with the name in the URL, but to www.mi.com/de. This little addition is so deeply rooted in the name. This has now come to an end (source: XDA).

Xiaomi has officially announced that the Mi add-on is history. We were already wondering why Xiaomi had not presented the brand new Mix 4 smartphone as Mi Mix 4. At the time, however, there was no recognizable system behind it, because the new tablets continued to be called Mi Pad 5. In the future it will be called Xiaomi 12, Xiaomi TV, Xiaomi Pad or Xiaomi Band 7 and so on. That “Mi” has always felt superfluous, but was still part of Xiaomi’s naming scheme.

What does the “Mi” from Xiaomi actually stand for?

In the end, however, Xiaomi also creates clarity. Many people in Germany now know the name Xiaomi. However, very few people associate the “Mi” brand, which can be seen in the online shop or in local shops, with Xiaomi. Only those who know “Mi” know that it comes from Xiaomi. So it is quite possible that Xiaomi just wants to ensure clear conditions here. According to Xiaomi, “Mi” stands for two things: “Mobile Internet” and “Mission Impossible”.
