The international embargo for Apple TV 2021 reviews has passed, so the internet fills with articles and videos reviewing Apple’s new TV cabinet.
The big innovation is clearly the new Siri Remote (which also works with the 2017 Apple TV, by the way). For example, CNN Underscored writes that this is ‘the best remote control they have ever tested’. The remote works simple and intuitive, something that could not be said about its predecessor. CNN mainly points to the price as a major drawback, because although Apple’s alternative is faster and better than Google’s Chromecast, it is a lot more pricey.
iMore is generally enthusiastic about the 2021 Apple TV, but struggles with the ‘Back button’ on the Remote. This button gets a new function depending on the app you are using, which often makes it unclear what will happen when you press this button. One app sends you back to the tvOS home screen, while another app sends you to the previous menu within the app itself.
What actually all reviews agree on is that the improvements compared to its predecessor are very limited. The new chip is powerful, but because of the way most people use the Apple TV (streaming movies and series) you will not notice much of this yet. Only when tvOS games desperately need the chip will the 2021 Apple TV prove itself against the 2017 model.

The entry-level model has 32GB of storage and costs 199 euros. The more luxurious variant is equipped with 64GB and you get it 219 euros at home. This version is especially recommended if you store a lot of games and / or movies locally.
