Signal comes with a special spoiler function

The latest beta version of Signal comes with two new features. One of these allows formatting of text, the other allows part of your message to be obscured so that it cannot be read until the recipient taps it. Spoiler alert!

New text formatting features

First of all, Signal comes with a function to edit text. This allows you to make the text italic or bold, for example. You can also choose to strike through text. If you want to do that, select the piece of text you want to edit in the text box. A pop-up menu will then appear where you can choose from various options.

Spoiler feature

As you can see above, Signal also comes with a special spoiler feature. This should ensure that part of your sent message is made unreadable. The recipient won’t be able to read this section until they tap the message. Useful if, for example, you want to say that a certain movie is great and want to deepen a scene, but you are not sure whether the recipient has already seen the film.

What is Signal?

Signal is a chat service or messaging service, just like WhatsApp, that allows you to send messages, media and other content to each other. Unlike WhatsApp, Signal is known to handle your data better. For example, it offers unique security codes and protects the metadata. You can think of the location and the IP address. Signal also encrypts all messages, just like WhatsApp, using end-to-end encryption. Finally, Signal is open source: this means that everyone can see how the software works and also check it.
