Set winter time on your iPhone or iPad: this is how it works

On an analog clock it is usually very clear what to do to set the winter time; that is usually the only function present besides showing the time. But how can you set daylight saving time on your iPhone?

Winter time on your iPhone

Winter time starts once a year. The clocks are then set back one hour at three o’clock in the morning. That means you can sleep in for an hour longer. In principle, changing the time on an iPhone and iPad is automatic. Apple has programmed its device so that you don’t have to touch your iPhone at night. However, it is good to check this on your iPhone to avoid confusion. You do this by following the following steps.

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone;
  2. Tap ‘General’ and then choose ‘Date and time’;
  3. Check whether the time zone is set to Amsterdam, so that it automatically adjusts to winter time. Or use the switch at ‘Set up automatically’ so you don’t have to do anything.
