Send WhatsApp photos in high quality – that’s how you do it

Then you take the most beautiful photos, but when sending via WhatsApp, the messenger destroys the quality. Thanks to a new function, that is now a thing of the past. This way you can send photos in high quality in WhatsApp.

Read on after the ad.

Send WhatsApp photos in high quality

WhatsApp is extremely practical for quickly sharing a snapshot. All your contacts are already there, including your Android friends, and you selected a photo to share in no time. Moreover, it is sent and received in no time. Everything fine, right? Well, until you start zooming in…

If you take a closer look at the photo, you will notice that the quality is far from what it was in your Photos app. Where you could first make out details in faces, now you only see a beige knit. To save data, WhatsApp reduces your photos, and also applies some compression to them. Years ago, with limited data bundles and poorer cameras, that may have been a very logical choice, but today you just want to send the best quality. However? Well, good news, because since the latest update of WhatsApp you can now also send photos in high quality.

WhatsApp’s new HD feature

The new feature to send photos in high quality was released together with the latest update of the messenger. So the first thing you should do is go to the App Store and make sure you have the latest version. The easiest way to do this is via your profile icon at the top right. Then it’s time to open WhatsApp!

WhatsApp Inc.

  1. Open the conversation in which you want to send a photo;
  2. Tap the plus sign and choose “Photo & Video Library”;
  3. Choose a photo to send;
  4. At the top a button ‘HD’ appears with a gear. Tap it;
  5. Choose ‘HD quality’ at the bottom and tap Done;
  6. Send your photo!

If you want to send multiple photos at once, WhatsApp will automatically apply your setting to all selected photos. It is therefore not possible to send a number of photos in both standard and HD quality.
