Sem (5) is cancer free and sees his biggest dream come true: marrying his mother

Fate struck a year ago when Sem (5) was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. After an operation, sixteen chemotherapy treatments and endless trips to the hospital, Sem is now well again. The boy, besides being cured, had only one wish: to marry his mother.
And that dream came true last week, with the help of the Make a Wish foundation. The images are sweeter than sweet.
From wedding dress to bouquet
What five-year-old Sem wanted most? Marry his mother. “Children often say to parents: I want to marry you. Sam to me too. When he was still ill,” says mother Veronica to the AD. “He had found a ring in a playground and then he shouted: look mom, we already have it.” Last week was the day: at his primary school in Papendrecht, surrounded by grandfathers, grandmothers, family and friends, Sem got married. Not a single detail was overlooked, says Veronica. “I got a wedding dress to wear, Sem a neat suit. Make-up was provided. Then I was picked up by a car. He gave me a bouquet. He was so proud when he saw me in that dress. Yes, then it was howling, roaring.”

A great day
Sem not only said yes, but was also taken to Dinoworld in a limousine, another of his wishes. “He thought it was really cool. Children’s champagne was arranged. We were allowed in through a special entrance. We had a great day.”
The wedding comes after an intense year in which Sem was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer and underwent surgery and sixteen chemotherapy treatments. It is therefore extra special that the family has now seen their greatest wish come true. “We are lucky to be able to get on with our lives now. If one thing has been proven to me after all this year, it’s that your family is the most beautiful thing in the world. The rest is secondary. I will never forget that.”
