Scalpers get their just punishment
It took a long time, but now you can buy the PS5 without any problems and long waiting times. There’s more good news: scalpers who’d made money off the plight of PS5 customers are now stuck on their PS5 consoles.
Scalpers are wherever something is in short supply: Whether it’s concert tickets that sell out immediately, which scalpers later sell to fans at twice the price, or PS5 consoles that they bought away in bulk to offer them more expensively on eBay and similar portals.
The particularly nasty thing about it: scalpers ensure that goods that are already in great demand are even more difficult to obtain because they do not buy for their own use, but in large quantities to generate profit.
However, once the actual product is widely available, scalpers lose their edge. After all, no one will take their PS5 from them when it’s a lot cheaper on Amazon. An American scalper is now being punished by Walmart for his tactics.
Revenge is sweet: Scalpers in the US have no more laughs
A picture of a scalper was recently shared on Reddit, when he tried to return his many PS5 consoles to Walmart. However, Walmart wasn’t particularly keen on refunding the scalper:
Reddit users ahent then declares:
“Saw this on another Reddit sub. The post poster said the manager at Walmart didn’t take them back. They have already been notified by another nearby Walmart that someone is attempting to return the consoles. The manager was told that all Walmarts were told not to take them back. Fuck scalpers.”
So Walmart has decided (at least locally) not to take back the consoles in this mass. Which is only right, after all, scalpers enrich themselves by depriving others of the opportunity to buy something normally in stores. It is to be hoped that German markets will take a similar approach.
In Germany, too, the scalper era is now over: PS5 consoles are sold on ebay for less than the normal price, albeit not much cheaper. However, the purchase may not be worthwhile if you support supposed scalpers.
