Samsung’s flip phones suddenly look old
With the P50 Pocket, Huawei has introduced its first flip smartphone. The foldable mobile phone is in direct competition with the Galaxy Z Flip 3 from Samsung – and has even overtaken it in some areas. But there is one important disadvantage.
Huawei P50 Pocket: New flip phone from China
At an event in China, Huawei presented its first flip phone, which is very reminiscent of the Galaxy Z Flip 3. However, it is not a mere copy, because the P50 Pocket can move here and there in front of the Samsung counterpart. Among other things, the cameras have a higher resolution and the battery also offers a higher capacity. The display is also a bit bigger.
In addition to a round display on the outside, on which, for example, incoming messages or the time are shown, the Huawei P50 Pocket has a lot larger AMOLED displaythat can be unfolded. It has a diagonal of 6.9 inches and offers a fast refresh rate of 120 Hertz (source: Huawei). The aspect ratio is a narrow 21: 9. According to Huawei, there is no notch in the middle of the screen.
Inside, the Snapdragon 888 is available as a processor, however only as an LTE variant. Since Huawei can no longer get 5G technology from the USA after sanctions, the P50 Pocket cannot rely on the fast cellular standard. It looks different with the Galaxy Z Flip 3.
the Battery offers 4,000 mAh and can be charged with a cable with 40 watts. In total, the cell phone weighs 190 grams and is slightly heavier than the flip cell phone from Samsung.

Huawei’s flip phone with a special camera
Huawei has opted for three cameras. In addition to a main camera that enables images with 40 MP, there is also an ultra-wide angle (13 MP) and one special “Ultra Spectrum Camera” ready. According to the manufacturer, the multispectral sensor can ensure that images appear sharper and livelier. The sensor should also offer advantages for night shots.
In China, the Huawei P50 Pocket is now available at a price of around 1,250 euros to 1,525 euros to get. For the gold edition with more working and permanent memory, you have to dig deeper into your pocket. Huawei has not revealed whether and when the flip cell phone will be offered in this country.
