Samsung TV Plus: Cost & Supported Devices

With “Samsung TV Plus”, the South Korean electronics group also offers its own TV streaming service. However, the actually free service has a small catch. You can read all the information about the costs, supported devices and possible alternatives here.

Cost & Supported Devices

The TV streaming service “Samsung TV Plus” is actually completely free. There is no subscription, no chargeable additional packages and you don’t even have to create an account to be able to watch most of the more than 100 channels. The only exception are the children’s channels, where you have to log in with a Samsung or Google account.

However, “Samsung TV Plus” is not freely available to everyone. The catch: You absolutely need a Samsung device to access the service. The “TV Plus” service is equally available on Samsung Smart TVs as well as Galaxy smartphones and tablets. The following devices are supported by “Samsung TV Plus”:

  • Samsung Smart TVs (models from 2016)
  • Galaxy smartphones and tablets (Android 8.0 or higher)

You can download the app either from Google’s “Play Store” or from Samsung’s own “Galaxy Store”.

Alternative to “Samsung TV Plus”

If you don’t have a Samsung Smart TV or a Galaxy mobile device, you can of course also sideload the APK file onto your Android device. However, incompatibilities such as display or operating errors can occur here, since the respective device is not officially supported.

The TV streaming service “Pluto TV” offers a better alternative. Just like “Samsung TV Plus”, this does not require registration, is completely free of charge and both services share many of the channels offered. The advantage of “Pluto TV” is that, unlike “TV Plus”, it is available on a large number of devices. There is a general Android app as well as the possibility to watch Pluto TV on Apple devices (iPhone & iPad), consoles, streaming devices or simply in the browser. You can find more information here:

In addition, some conventional TV streaming services such as “Joyn”, “waipu.tv” and “Zattoo” also offer access to part of their offer with a free account. In contrast to “TV Plus” and “Pluto TV”, these services offer more of the conventional channels that you also know from German free and pay TV.
