Samsung stops updates for the Galaxy Note 8
Bad news for owners of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8. The device can no longer be found in Samsung’s update schedule and will therefore no longer receive new updates. The update from last August will be the last regular update that the device has received.
Like a wildfire
The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 was an important device for Samsung. The device was in fact the successor of the (literally) exploding Galaxy Note 7. Due to problems with the battery of the device, it could spontaneously catch fire. With the arrival of the Galaxy Note 8, Samsung had to show that the problem with the Note 7 was just an ‘incident’, and also had to prove that the devices were safe.
The problems were solved, if in part by putting a somewhat small battery in the Note 8, and the device brought enough innovation with it to make it a success. Before that time, the bezels were minimal and the device was the first smartphone from Samsung with a double camera. According to the company, the Note 8 had the highest pre-order figures of all Note devices at the time. In our review we were also quite positive about the device at the time.
Heated discussion?
Samsung has given a total of two major Android version upgrades to the device and provided the device with security updates for about four years. At first this was every month, later it became once a quarter. Samsung could still update the phone on an irregular basis with security patches, but that is expected to happen only in case of serious security problems.
