Samsung reportedly plans to replace the Android operating system with a Fuchsia OS

According to two leaks, Samsung is going to replace Android with Fuchsia OS within a few years. It’s a pretty risky bet that hasn’t paid off for Samsung twice in the past. The message is provided by the PhoneArena portal.

Ten years ago, Samsung wanted its Bada OS for flagship and Android for more affordable devices. More than five years ago, he experimented with Tizen on mobile phones again. This year, Samsung has once again confirmed that it is better to go with Android – it has brought the Wear OS to its popular Samsung Galaxy Watch 4.

Will Samsung replace Android for Fuchsia OS?

Fuchsia OS is an operating system from Google, as well as Android. However, we have not really seen it on any smartphone yet. So we don’t know if it will be better or worse than Android and if it has the potential for mass expansion at all – as has happened with Android.

Google has been working on the Fuchsia OS for about 5 years now – since 2016. The first device to get this OS was the Nest Hub. It is a control center for a smart home. Fuchsia OS is supposed to have several advantages over Android – e.g. better updatability.

In recent years, Google has talked about plans such as. to Migrate Pixels and Chrome Devices to Fuchsia OS. Google wanted to meet this goal within five years. In 2019, they mentioned again that the smart home is only the starting point for the Fuchsia OS.

Samsung has been contributing to the development of this OS for some time. Google created new job ads a few months ago, looking for developers for the Fuchsia OS. Samsung also has a team of workers called Fuchsia Devices.

This may serve as further proof that Samsung wants to leave Android. Huawei has also considered moving to this platform in the past. Its Harmony OS also has a microkernel as well as Fuchsia.
