Samsung patents double-folding phone Samsung Galaxy Tri-Fold
Now that Samsung has mastered making foldable smartphones, it clearly intends to look to the next step. It has filed a patent for a phone that has as many as three screens and can therefore fold twice.
Fingerprint scanner under the screen
The device would have a fingerprint sensor in the screen and that is special. We’ve never seen this in a foldable phone before. In addition, there is an extra screen on the back of the device, so you can easily take selfies with the main camera. There is also a triple camera system on the same back, as we know from Galaxy Z Fold 3.
There is also support for the S-pen and you can connect the smartphone via HDMI, in addition to a USB-C connection, audio jack and SD card pocket. There are two batteries in the device to ensure that the inside and the screens are supplied with sufficient energy.

This is all apparent from the patent that Samsung has registered, LetsGoDigital writes. The South Korean tech giant continues to innovate, because it now also has a Galaxy Z Slide rollable smartphone in the works. However, the smartphone for which it has now applied for a patent is a double-folding variant with three screen parts.
You don’t unfold it in a Z shape, so one part goes forward and one goes back. There is no other way, because there is a hinge that only works one way and a hinge that only works the other way. It is a thick smartphone if you use the three screens folded on top of each other, so we doubt whether you can easily take it with you in your pocket.
Dual antennas
An interesting detail is that being able to fold the smartphone twice means that there is a longer wiring distance, which degrades the antenna quality. Samsung has built in several antennas on this. One in the housing and one in the third part.
Samsung must still stay ahead of the competition, now that Oppo has presented its Find N, Huawei its P50 Pocket and Xiaomi its Mi Mix Fold has appeared. And then there’s Motorola that comes with a new foldable Razr. In short, continuing to innovate in the field of foldable phones is not a strange choice. Three screens also come in handy, because this makes the smartphone really a kind of tablet, which has become very popular again, partly due to the pandemic.
