Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 holds up well in endurance test

The foldable Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 has been thoroughly overhauled: JerryRigEverything has sanded, bent, scratched the device, and although it certainly did not survive the test (which is almost impossible), several points have emerged where Samsung has handled it well in terms of sturdiness.

JerryRigEverything

The problem with foldable phones is that they don’t seem to be as sturdy. After all, it’s not one piece, it’s two pieces attached together with a hinge. In addition, the screen is also different than we are used to. Not hard glass, but a softer material to make that fold possible. Not exactly a good candidate for JerryRigEverything, you might say.

Zack (his name is not Jerry at all) is the man who has been trying to destroy all smartphones at his disposal for years. He scratches them, he bends them, he rubs some sand in them: his intention is not so much to make a spectacle of it as to break something: it is precisely to show people at home: this is what you need in terms of sturdiness can expect from your new phone. Expectations in that area are much lower with a foldable phone, but that’s partly why it’s surprising how well Galaxy Z Fold 4 comes out.

The device does not differ much from its predecessor, Galaxy Z Fold 3, which appeared last year. It is, however, considerably thinner. The predecessor also did not do without merit in the test: the plastic screen on the inside struggled, but otherwise the device managed to stay firm when bending and to stay okay in the dust part of the experiment. The same appears to be true for Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4. The hinge is sturdy and does not give a kick when Zack starts playing with it.

Even after a whole heap of sand, the hinge continues to do its job, as if nothing is wrong. The device also does not just break in two when bent the wrong way. In short, Z Fold 4 does just as well as number 3, but with a much thinner interior. Impressive, but at the same time also much needed: the most affordable device costs no less than 1799 euros.
