Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 undergoes torture test and this is what remains

Zack Nelson, better known as JerryRigEverything, has made it his business to torture new smartphones on his workbench. Everything to test the durability of this phone. This time it’s the turn of the brand new and very expensive Galaxy Z Fold 3. You can see here how this foldable phone does. Note: it’s another painful torture test to watch.

The new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 is a smartphone that, when you open it, you can also use it as a tablet. The phone has been officially in the shops since the end of last week, and we have already been able to test the Z Fold 3. You can read the result in this review. Zack Nelson has also tested the Z Fold 3, but he does it in a completely different way, including with a lighter and a box cutter.

In the video, Nelson first of all compliments Samsung about the packaging. The box is not filled with plastic, which makes the packaging a lot more durable. After that, he gets to work with the 1800 euro foldable smartphone. He starts with the ‘Mohs test’. This particular test looks at the hardness of the screen. In the case of the cover screen, which is the smaller screen on the front, the Z Fold 3, the scratches appear at level 6 on the Mohs scale. This makes the screen resistant to scratches from keys and sand – Samsung uses tempered glass (Gorilla Glas Victus) for the Fold 3. The main screen with the protective layer made of PET plastic does not do as well.

Samsung is using a water resistance rating of IPX8 for the Fold 3 for the first time in the Galaxy Z series, which is a plus. Unfortunately, the phone is not dustproof, but during the test no sand gets into the hinge. A fall in the sandbox should therefore not be a problem. The frame of the Fold 3 is also very durable, both folded and unfolded, and Samsung also indicated this during the launch. Jerry couldn’t fold the phone back, as was the case with the original Fold but not the Fold 2. So the phone passed the bend test.

Overall, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 with its bendable and foldable parts is surprisingly resistant to Zack’s tools.
