Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra gets ‘moderate score’ in camera test DxoMark

DxOMark is a company that takes a close look at the camera quality of smartphones. This time it was visited by the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. Despite the positive reception in other tests, the phone does not come out with the best score.

DxOMark about Galaxy S23 Ultra

DroidApp was very pleased with the newest and largest model of the S23 series. As far as we are concerned, all signals are green in our extensive Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra review. The camera also delivers very good photos, under different circumstances. The manufacturer has equipped the device with a 200 megapixel camera with which you can go in all directions. However, not everyone is equally enthusiastic. Or at least, not the people at DxOMark, which subjects many devices to a camera test.

The expensive Galaxy S23 Ultra does not get a very good score in relative terms. Samsung’s flagship takes tenth place in the ranking. This places it behind competitors such as the Google Pixel 7 Pro (review) and the iPhone 14 Pro models. Number one is still the Huawei Mate 50 Pro. The predecessor of the S23 Ultra, the Galaxy S22 Ultra (with Exynos) is in 24th place.

Pros and cons

But why doesn’t the Galaxy S23 Ultra get a spot on the podium? According to DxOMark, the Galaxy S23 Ultra scores no points in terms of detailing in faces. This would happen incidentally, the study reports. Strong noise is also observed in low light and indoor shots. The contrast is also lacking in backlit scenes, and there is sometimes a hint in the lighter white balance.

However, there is also plenty of positive to report. For example, the Galaxy S23 Ultra is very good at capturing details. In addition, it has a large dynamic range under all circumstances, it provides good details when zooming in and there is an accurate autofocus. The image stabilization in video mode is also praised.
