We will also see a compact model
The overall design reportedly will not change much compared to this year’s Galaxy S21 series. However, the dimensions of the displays will be different. The base model will reportedly offer a 6.01 ″ display, while the Galaxy S22 + will have a 6.55 ″ display. The Galaxy S22 Ultra gets a 6.81 ″ panel. By comparison, the Galaxy S21 has a 6.2 ″ display, the S21 + boasts a 6.7 uh diagonal and the S21 Ultra with a 6.8 ″ display.
The screens of all three devices should support a 120 Hz refresh rate. In addition, the Ultra model offers QHD + resolution and the ability to dynamically change the refresh rate.
Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra
Once these leaks are confirmed, the basics model will be the first compact device in the Galaxy S flagship series since the release of the Galaxy S10e in 2019. At the same time, it will compete with the iPhone 12 mini (though not completely).
Models from the Galaxy S22 series will offer new rear sensors or smaller batteries
As for the cameras, the Galaxy S22 and S22 + will reportedly share a new main sensor with a resolution of 50 MP. It is complemented by a 12 MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom and a 12 MP ultra-wide angle camera. The Galaxy S22 Ultra, on the other hand, offers a 108 MP main sensor along with three other 12 MP sensors – a triple-zoom telephoto lens, a ten-fold zoom periscope and an ultra-wide-angle lens.
The battery capacities of the S22 and S22 + will be smaller compared to their predecessors, at 3,800 mAh for the base model and 4,000 mAh for the Galaxy S22 +. The S22 Ultra will have a 5,000 mAh battery, just like this year’s model.
There have also been reports that Samsung will use the Snapdragon 898 chipset instead of its own Exynos 2200 processor due to a chip shortage problem.
Samsung is testing 65 W charging. Models from the Galaxy S22 series will receive it
23.7.2021
Samsung does not offer extra powerful charging in its current TOP models. The maximum is currently 25 W. However, the manufacturer has worked on optimization, so the models from the Galaxy S21 family charge relatively quickly.
In the past, we had the opportunity to see 45 W charging, in the case of the Galaxy Note 10+ model. However, a charging adapter with this power was not included in the package. According to the GSMAren portal, the manufacturer is now testing a new, faster charging with a power of 65 W.
This should be available for upcoming Galaxy S22 models. These should come early next year. We are not hearing for the first time that Samsung plans to increase charging power. The information has appeared since the beginning of this year.
The charger is already certified
In February, the Korean manufacturer had a charger certified, which has 20 V and 3.25 A, which gives the aforementioned power of 65 W. However, the question remains whether Samsung decides to pack the charger in a sales package.
As you know, the packaging of this year’s flagship models does not include charging adapters, they only contain a double-sided USB-C cable.
With this performance, the new Samsungs could charge from 0 to 100% in about half an hour. It currently takes a little over an hour. For comparison, we charged the Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ in our editorial test in 59 minutes using a 45 W charger.
Of the devices we have tested so far, the models from OnePlus are the best. OnePlus 9 Pro charged in 29 minutes. The Huawei Mate 40 Pro also achieved a very good time, which takes 44 minutes. You can see the complete table of charging speeds here.
Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra: Unique camera and Exynos 2200
6.5.2021
Samsung’s flagships typically boast high quality cameras. It’s quite natural. It is the embodiment of the best that the manufacturer has in his salon, and quality photography also ranks at the forefront of customers’ choices when choosing a new smartphone. Therefore, there is no room for savings on top models.
The competition, which approaches this in the same way, does not sleep either, so the equipment of smartphones moves a bit forward every year. Changes are sometimes quite minor, other times it is a real leap. In the case of Samsung, we should see a major innovation of the mobile camera next year. The SamMobile portal informs about it.
Better photos with zoom
The expected Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra model is said to be equipped with an improved periscope sensor with optical stabilization based on lens shift – “moving optical zoom”. It should work similarly to digital SLRs.
The lenses that are part of the new periscope solution should be in the range of 3 to 10 times the zoom. In practice, this should be reflected in a significant increase in the quality of the photographs when using a zoom with the mentioned range.
The portal reminds that a similar solution can be found in the Sony Xperia 1 III smartphone, but it offers only two levels of zoom. The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra should be much more flexible in this regard.
Galaxy S22 Ultra: Exynos, AMD and camera under the screen
In addition to information on how to improve the camera’s capabilities, other features are mentioned in connection with the expected model. Specifically, it should be a front camera located under the display and the use of the Exynos 2200 processor in combination with the AMD Radeon Mobile GPU graphics chip, which is supposed to surprise with performance.
It is also worth mentioning that the placement of the front camera under the screen has already been discussed in connection with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 folding model. Based on current information, it even looks like this whole piece will be tested in this piece.
