Samsung Galaxy S21 FE receives February security update

The Samsung Galaxy S21 FE may receive a new software update in the coming weeks. The software update brings a security patch to address more than 60 privacy and security vulnerabilities.

The new update for the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE has firmware version G990BXXS1BVB3 and, in addition to the security patch, also includes bug fixes and improvements that should ensure that the stability of the device is increased. You can expect the update on your device in the coming days or weeks. This update is one of many that will follow. Samsung has included the Galaxy S21 FE in the list of smartphones that will receive no fewer than four major Android upgrades from the South Korean company and (at least) five years of security updates.

Now (well) a good deal

The story of the Galaxy S21 FE is a bit complicated. In short: The S FE line (Fan Edition) should offer the premium experience of the Galaxy S series, at an affordable price. For this you hand in small things compared to the regular S-series. For example, the S20 FE had a plastic back, instead of the glass of the Galaxy S20 and the device had slightly less RAM. On the other hand, the device did have a faster chipset.

After the Galaxy S21 last year, we had to wait for the S21 FE. However, due to a worldwide chip shortage, this was not released in the autumn of 2021, but ‘only’ last January. At that time, the S21 had already dropped in price so far, that the S21 FE was more expensive than the regular S21. The device was therefore difficult to recommend. However, the suggested retail price bothers me. In 2020, the Galaxy S20 FE was the very good price fighter in its segment, and stood head and shoulders above it. With the S21 FE, that’s a different story. With the S21 FE, we get to see a similar phone more than a year and a half later. That feels like a little too late. In addition, the competition is so fierce and the launch of the S22 series is also imminent. The S22, in particular, will compete with the S21 FE, just like the S21. It is busy in the smartphone landscape and the S21 FE seems to be snowed under due to its price.

However, the S21 FE has now dropped enormously in price and you can currently buy it from around 580 euros. And for that money, the device is actually one of the best on the market. In addition, the device is better than the regular S21 on a few fronts. The device has a faster chipset and a larger battery. So definitely worth it.
