Samsung confirms the end of the Galaxy Note series, S Ultra takes over

Samsung has officially confirmed the death of the Galaxy Note series. The rumor has been floating around for a while after the newly launched Galaxy S22 Ultra with the best features of the Galaxy Note series† It was almost official then that Samsung was done with the iconic smartphone line-up. Now it’s really time.

Galaxy S Ultra takes over

Speaking at Mobile World Congress 2022, Roh Tae-moon, head of Samsung Electronics Mobile Experience, announced that the “Galaxy Note will now come out as [Galaxy S] Ultra”. This means that Samsung will not release a new model in the Galaxy Note series. Instead, the Galaxy S Ultra lineup will continue the “legacy” of the Note.

In our review of the new Galaxy S22 Ultra you could already read which Note functions the phone has taken over and how much the phone resembles the Galaxy Note 21 Ultra.

Samsung is taking a completely different approach with the Galaxy S22 Ultra. I immediately got ‘Note-vibes’ when I saw the S22 Ultra. So the many rumors were correct, Samsung has merged its S Ultra and Note Ultra into one S Ultra. In terms of appearance, what lies ahead of me is the successor to the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. Only the device gets the name, Galaxy S22 Ultra.

Distinction between Note and S series

Samsung has struggled in recent years to differentiate the Galaxy Note series from the Galaxy S series. That line was further blurred with last year’s Galaxy S21 Ultra, which brought S-Pen support. The new Galaxy S22 Ultra now has all the features fans have come to expect from the iconic Galaxy Note line, including the S-Pen, a large screen with curved edges, Air Command functions and more.
