Smart Home: Samsung and Google cooperate

Samsung has announced a collaboration with Google that focuses on interoperability. In the future, the two smart home systems of the groups will be able to use the Matter Standard ensure better communication with each other. In the coming months, users of Samsung’s Galaxy phones and tablets will then be able to easily add Matter-compatible devices to the SmartThings and Google Home ecosystem.

Samsung admits that it has been “difficult” to use smart home products across multiple ecosystems so far. Multiple apps with different accounts from different manufacturers often stand in the way of simple use. The uncontrolled growth should come to an end with the Matter Standard. In particular, the group expects a noticeable simplification of the multi-admin function. It should be made available in the coming weeks.

In practice, it could look like this in the near future, when users call up their SmartThings app and are already made aware of Matter-enabled devices that have been set up with Google Home. The reverse route is also provided. Users are given the choice which app they ultimately want to use to control their smart home (Source: Samsung).

Matter-Standard: Other manufacturers are also involved

The Matter Standard is not just an important building block for smart homes and the Internet of Things for Samsung and Google. Apple and Amazon are also involved in the development. Ikea also relies on Matter support for its new Dirigera hub.
