Sales: the iPhone 13/13 Pro are a hit, the mini is a failure

The iPhone 13 are doing well in terms of sales, very well even. But one model out of the four does not succeed: it is the iPhone 13 mini. It is clearly behind its big brothers.

Serious difficulty for the iPhone 13 mini

Consumer Research Intelligence Partners (CIRP) reveals data for the United States and the four iPhone 13 models accounted for 71% of iPhone sales in March. The most popular model is the 6.1-inch iPhone 13 with 38% of sales. The iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max are behind. And the iPhone 13 mini is far behind with only 3% of sales (the iPhone 12 mini is also at 3%). We understand why Apple intends to abandon the mini model from the iPhone 14.

Different iPhone Sales March 2022

Is the new range more popular than the old? The answer is yes. In the same period a year ago, the various iPhone 12s accounted for 61% of sales. Also, the 6.1-inch iPhone 13 is outselling the iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 when they were each the latest models in Spring 2020 and Spring 2021.

CIRP adds that habits for changing phones have changed over the years:

After several years of buyers keeping their previous phone for longer, users are now keeping their previous phone for less. In the first quarter of 2022, 20% of buyers said they kept their old phone for three years or more, compared to 34% in March 2021. 47% of buyers said they kept their previous phone for two years or less, compared to 35% during the first quarter of 2021.
