RTL + wants more: streaming provider is becoming an all-rounder

After films and series, RTL is expanding the range of its streaming portal. Now the private broadcaster has announced its own music app. 90 million songs and many radio streams can be heard here. But that should only be the beginning.

RTL + starts with a new music app

With “RTL+ Musik”, the broadcaster is expanding its offering for the RTL+ streaming service. The app will be available from August 17th and will offer access to an extensive catalogue. This consists of at the beginning more than 90 million songs and “up to” 100 radio streams. There are also over 5,000 curated playlists. The content will be offered on RTL+ through a partnership with French music streaming provider Deezer.

According to RTL, the music app only provides the Beginning of a media offensive Among other things, there are plans for the future to offer soundtracks for popular series, shows and reality formats. Podcasts and audio books will also be part of the app. The existing Audio Now platform will later become part of “RTL+ Musik”.

Furthermore are already planning with “digital premium magazines”, however, without going into more detail. It is obvious that the new app will become a digital sales channel for the magazines published by Gruner + Jahr. RTL Germany took over at the beginning of the year. The portfolio includes many well-known titles such as GEO, Stern, Brigitte, Schöner Wohnen or Gala.

According to RTL, around half of all current RTL + users would not have a music streaming subscription. The broadcaster sees great potential here. One would like to position oneself via “variety, simplicity and price” (source: RTL). According to its own statements, RTL + with its 3.4 million subscribers the leading German streaming service.

Access to the new app within the RTL+ offering costs 9.99 euros per month for the introduction. From the 7th month, costs of 12.99 euros for “RTL + Max” are incurred. The notice period is 30 days. The music offer is largely withheld from free and premium customers. You can only use the app for free radio offers.
