Riot Games make MMOs from the world of League of Legends »Vortex
Riot Games has announced that it is working on an MMO from the League of Legends world. At the same time, it went without much fanfare and it resulted more or less from the conversation on Twitter. Studio Street vice president said it was something many fans had been calling for for a long time. For Polygon magazine, a representative of Riot Games confirmed that it will be an MMORPG. The title will of course be set in the world of Runeterra.
Riot Games also wrote to PC Gamer PR magazine that this tweet is the only official comment at the moment. Unfortunately, we don’t know more at the moment. We have no details, trailer or pictures available. This is a rather atypical way to announce something so crucial, given what event it might be in the future. The community has been asking for this MMO very loudly.
Greg Street himself used to work at Blizzard as the lead systems designer of World of Warcraft, so he is no newcomer to this field. Of course, this is not the first time that online players from the world of League of Legends have been talked about. As early as 2018, Riot Games co-founder Marc Merrill asked fans if they should do an MMO.
Coincidentally, Marc Merrill also stated in an exact year-old video that he would like to do an MMO, but if they did, it would be a long-distance run. He stressed that issuing an MMO involves a lot of work and it is very challenging if it is to be done correctly.
Riot Games are no longer the company of one game. In addition to League of Legends, they also have the titles Teamfight Tactics, Legends of Runeterra or Valorant. Several other games are being prepared. These include Ruined King: A League of Legends Story and Project L. Studio Riot Games, founded in 2006, is headquartered in Los Angeles and has 24 offices worldwide. The company employs approximately 2,500 people and is now owned by the Chinese Tencent.
