Replenishment problems with e-cars: VW follows suit
Several models from VW’s ID range are only available on a limited basis. The lack of chips is noticeably affecting Germany’s largest car manufacturer. But the most successful e-car from Wolfsburg should return shortly.
VW is bringing back the e-UP after more than a year
In the current situation, VW customers are used to waiting, so several configurations of the ID.3 and ID.4 electric cars cannot be ordered at the same time. Reasons are, on the one hand, the lack of chips, which has long gripped large parts of the automotive industry. On the other hand, there is an almost unbroken high demand for e-cars. Now VW is bringing back its successful electric model: The e-UP should be available again shortly.
It took a little over a year for VW to offer the successful little Stromer again. Fans of the smallest electric Volkswagen can now look forward to its Return mid-February be happy. Then the e-UP will be available again (source: golem). Shortly thereafter, the next e-car innovation from Wolfsburg awaits us in the spring: the e-Bulli is to be presented.
In the meantime, the focus has been on the much larger electric cars – no wonder, since VW is said to have previously made a loss of several thousand euros per e-UP. They now want to put an end to this with new specifications and revise the offer structure. Also means: The new e-UP should cost more.
In 2020, the group removed the car from the configurator. Customers could no longer order an e-UP as a new car. Previously, a delivery time of 16 months at the earliest was given. So from the e-Up, VW had before the end of 2020 already sold the annual production for 2021.

Less expensive than the ID.3: high demand expected for e-UP
Dealer information can be seen that the e-UP will return in the top equipment “Style Plus” 26,500 euros will cost (source: Edison Media). There is a fast-charging CCS connection for this, and a battery with a capacity of 32.2 kWh should be on board for a range of around 260 km. VW has not yet provided any official information on the price.
Together with the environmental bonus, it should still be less than 20,000 euros and thus be a cheap entry into e-mobility for those interested. If you really want to hit the e-UP, you should get ready: Demand is unlikely to have dropped.
