Replacing the display on folding smartphones is expensive
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip
This smartphone with a design display is marketed at almost the best price of all the phones on this list. The SamMobile website captured information on Samsung’s website. The amount for repairing the main screen is 420 €. For the back panel and at the same time a smaller second display, it is € 80.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3
The new Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 will be in similar “equipment” as its predecessor Galaxy Z Flip. With water resistance and a larger second display, the price tag on this smartphone is € 850.
According to TheVerge, the repair of the folding display will cost € 300 out of warranty. The exchange price for the secondary display is € 80.
Samsung Galaxy Fold
The first folding smartphone from the South Korean giant Samsung brought the vision of these devices to reality. This was also reflected in its price, which hovered around well above the € 1,500 threshold. Samsung’s official website said the fee for replacing the entire set of displays is an incredible € 500.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2
Samsung’s second Galaxy Fold has penetrated the market even more, thanks to its improved appearance and nicer processing of the ultra-thin glass screen on the main display for better durability. What to expect when both sides of the smartphone break?
The company stated on its website that the replacement of the main screen is lower than with the premiere Galaxy Fold device, namely 470 €. On the other hand, they charge € 120 for damage to the outer panel in the store.
Samsung Glalaxy Z Fold 3
The latest Z Fold is an improvement on the previous Z Fold 2, mainly thanks to the Snapdragon 888 chipset, water resistance, selfie camera under the display and a more powerful screen with S Pen support.
TheVerge has again received information from Samsung that a folding display repair will be charged at € 400. The outside of the facility will cost € 130.
Huawei Mate X/XS
Huawei’s first folding phone was only available in China. However, this device is different from the Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip series. The Mate X smartphone is special precisely in that it folds to the outside. Samsung devices are all stacked inward like books.
The most terrifying is the cost of repairing the displays on this smartphone. The way Mate X is composed makes it almost impossible to scratch or, in the worst case, break it. Screen repair costs € 860. That’s almost half the value of a phone they sell in China with a price tag of € 2,000.
Huawei Mate X2
The Chinese brand continues, similarly to Samsung, in a series of folding trends following the Mate X2. Huawei learned from the previous Mate X smartphone and has already produced the next version of the Mate X2 so that it closes with the screens inside. The company charges € 2,560 for this novelty, which is quite a high price for folding smartphones.
When the displays on a newer model break, the value of the screen set fixes is slightly lower than with the Mate X, at € 750. The outer panel can be repaired in stores for € 100.
razr by motor
The Motorola Razr is the company’s first folding smartphone. Its distinctive difference from Samsung and Huawei is that it opens vertically. It is a bit cheaper than it is with well-known developers of folding phones. The Motorola Razr costs € 1,480, depending on the dealer.
The PhoneArena portal stated that changing screens on this device is so far the cheapest of all the folding smartphones we know. In the official store, they will exchange your displays for 260 €, which is only 10 € more expensive than replacing the display of the flagship Galaxy S21 Ultra.
