Regularly short of time? Take advantage of these 5 tips

Getting somewhere on time with children is a thrifty commodity. Do you want to go to birthdays in peace and well prepared, be on time for that one appointment or put a healthy meal on the table? Something that – to put it mildly – can be quite a challenge. What helps is (ahead) planning. Five tips.

1. Cook ahead

Do you often get into trouble with everything you still have to do around dinner time? Or do you actually have no time to cook a healthy meal? Then cook a few extra portions the night before or during the weekend and freeze what you have left. When you or your partner are not there or you really don’t have time to cook, you can still put a nutritious meal on the table.

2. Buy presents

Do you receive an invitation for a birthday (party)? Then get a present that same day. Then it may have been in the closet for a few weeks, but that’s better than having to arrange it at the last minute or forgetting about it. You can also create a gift box. For example, if you find something nice on sale, take it with you and keep it in the closet until the next birthday. Handy for an unexpected or last minute invitation.

3. Colored schedule

Do you make a plan that states what everyone has to do? Then use different colors to indicate exactly what belongs to whom. And give each child its own color so that they can see for themselves what they still have to do.

4. Involve your child

Nothing is as frustrating as ‘knowing nothing’, also for children. Therefore, involve your child(ren) in making the daily planning. It does depend on the age of your child about what he or she can think about. For example, let your two-year-old think about things that need to be done on the day itself, such as getting dressed and dinner. A child aged 5 or older can easily think along about what needs to be done in a week. By including them in the planning, your child is aware of what needs to be done and there is a good chance that it will therefore take less time.

5. Let it go

Just when you’re in a hurry, your kids are lying on the floor because you picked the wrong color pants or put peanut butter on the sandwich instead of apple syrup. As a result, you will be late for an appointment or have to cancel one. Our advice? Also embrace the chaos once in a while and don’t fight it. Realize that not everything in life can be planned well. Or as Elsa says: Let it go, let it go!
