Redmi K20 receives an update with the MIUI 12.5 extension

The company has released a stable version of the MIUI 12.5 superstructure Xiaomi already in June for this year’s and last year’s models. According to the GizChina portal, it is now getting into the smartphone from 2019 Redmi K20.

The Redmi K20 did not only surprise two years ago with its excellent ratio of parameters and price. Its distinguishing feature was a retractable selfie camera, thanks to which the display was without cutouts and holes. Its operating system at the time was Android 9.0 Pie with the MIUI 10 extension. Some time ago, the system was updated to Android 11 with the MIUI 12 extension, which was upgraded to MIUI version 12.5 in the latest update. This is the fourth system update.

The update is numbered V12.5.1.0.RFJCNXM and is distributed as OTA. MIUI 12.5 brings up to a 20% improvement in performance as well as lower battery consumption by up to 15%. At the same time, some new animations will be added, which are smoother. Also new is the ability not to give the application access to the exact location, but only to the approximate location. This is possibly the latest system update for this model.

According to the manufacturer’s official website, the system should notify you of the update automatically. If this does not happen, you can check its availability in the section Settings -> About Phone -> Software Update. Before installation, make sure that your smartphone battery is at least 70% charged.

How’s competition with updates?

There is also competition in the updates. The popular Chinese brand OnePlus this week brought Android 11 for three-year-old OnePlus 6 and 6T smartphones. South Korean giant Samsung updated the cheap Galaxy A10 model on Android 11 and the flagship Galaxy Note 20 brought the August security patch.
