Reddit improves its transparency rules and its moderation

Reddit has just launched a “transparency center” to provide users with a certain amount of information concerning the safety, security and rules of the social network. This information hub also aims to facilitate access for users and other interested parties, such as policymakers and the media, to information on content moderation, legal requests and general platform security. . The hub includes sections on Reddit Terms of Service and Rules, Law Enforcement Guidelines, Platform Security Updates, Vulnerability Bounty Program ( bug bounty), as well as all previous transparency reports. Reddit also plans to publish transparency reports every two years instead of once a year, with semi-annual reports covering both legal requests as well as content moderation data.

Reddit removed far more offensive content last year than in 2021, including child abuse and revenge porn content. The site has thus increased the deletions of child pornography content by 874%, mainly thanks to the hiring of additional moderation staff and heavy investments in proactive detection tools. Reddit also deleted many more user accounts in violation of the rules on the revenge porn (+244% deletions) and banned 473% more subreddits. 187,258 “non-consensual” intimate images were removed in 2022, compared to around 88,000 in 2021 the previous year. Reddit also recently joined StopNCII.org, an organization dedicated to ending the revenge porn.
