Reddit also gives you a TikTok experience

How TikTok functions appears to be a source of inspiration for many. Reddit also has a video feed function.

The world is suddenly under the spell of TikTok. This wildly popular Chinese medium is what many (young) users still missed in their lives. For those who are not familiar with the app: these are short videos with funny filters and other nonsense that you can quickly share with the world. Everyone you follow will end up on your homepage where you can scroll through all those videos.

That turns out to be an inspiration to many. Instagram Reels doesn’t come out of the blue either: short videos and a feed where you can scroll down. Snapchat, Facebook and other media also work with such a feed these days. One app has also quietly received such a feature and we expected this one a little less: Reddit.

Reddit gets video feed

Reddit is not like other social media. Reddit calls itself “the homepage of the internet” because the user is social. There is a ‘subreddit’ for every topic where a team of users arrange things the way they want. Reddit is seen by many as a somewhat more traditionally designed app, unlike most social media. It works almost completely without algorithms that determine what you see and what you don’t. Well, now Reddit also has a system where everything you follow ends up in a kind of ‘feed’, but now there is a separate section around videos: you don’t expect that as quickly.

The logo that looks a bit like YouTube is the way to get into Reddit’s video feed. Reddit almost didn’t announce it, so basically everyone already has it at the top right. It works exactly like TikTok: all your videos are listed here and you can quickly scroll through them. What’s less ‘des Reddits’: this feed also includes suggestions from subreddits that you don’t follow. That seems to work with algorithms.

Reddit is slowly moving towards making this TikTok-esque video feed the app’s new video player. A Reddit spokesperson told TechCrunch, who asked Reddit for comment after implementing the new video feed. That way all apps will look a bit alike, don’t you think?
