Developers from the Canadian studio Tuque Games have decided to follow the legacy of the console game Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance and bring a similar hack’n’slash concept to other platforms after twenty years. The name has changed – instead of Baldur’s Gate, the new Dark Alliance resembles the straight board game Dungeons & Dragons – but we can tell in advance that this connection did not work out. Although everything starts quite promisingly and the first moments in the game entice you to a hectic duel, loot, enemies and large locations, everything starts to repeat too quickly and the game loses its breath. Any story is missing, even if it is based on an interesting plot. As a result, we lack a deeper sense of why go on individual expeditions. And when you add a variety of design and technical shortcomings, the result is a relatively unsatisfactory experience. More in our video review above.

  • Game stylization and reminder of the world of Forgotten Realms
  • Each of the locations tries to be unique at least through different types of enemies
  • Famous characters led by the drow killer Drizzt
  • Some bosses
  • A large number of technical bugs that have not yet been fixed
  • The combat system is not smooth or easy to read, it suffers mainly from animations and the effects of blows
  • Transparent level design in which the same elements are repeated over and over for many hours
  • Very unbalanced difficulty, playing solo is sometimes a real ordeal
  • Impossibility to get to an interesting loot on lower levels of difficulty
  • The absence of any story, although it is very nicely introduced by cutscenes
  • Desynchronization in multiplayer
  • Impossibility to save the game during several hours of missions
  • The feeling that the only mission is to kill everything and everyone, preferably without asking

The spiritual successor to the console console Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance did not please us much. Although it combines two famous brands in its name, the result is a non-greasy game that lacks any depth. What’s worse, they suffer from a lot of design and technical mistakes, due to which it is not possible to fully put yourself into the experience and at least devote yourself to the fight. Even this is subject to many inaccuracies in interventions and animations, often leading to failure and the need to repeat even due to the unbalanced difficulty of the fight over and over again. Unfortunately, the game does not reach the limit of the average even through cooperation, which is also plagued by technical shortcomings and the potential of the four characters cannot be fully developed in it.
