The new 5G research and development center in Lannion will be “A center of excellence for telecommunications engineering, as well as a European technological center”, according to Qualcomm. The group says it has worked with the French government to strengthen Lannion’s position as a leading telecommunications engineering hub. It also intends to retain talent and preserve technological expertise in this area.
“This new center will increase and strengthen our R&D capabilities in Europe and help us stay at the forefront of technological innovation globally”said Enrico Salvatori, Senior Vice President and President of Qualcomm Europe / MEA, quoted in a statement. For his part, John Smee, vice president of engineering at Qualcomm, believes that France “Already has an excellent technical engineering infrastructure”. Settling more in the country is “Natural” to his eyes.
