The PlayStation 5 is full of surprises

Both the console and the included controller of the PS5 are full of exciting hardware and software, which provide their users with numerous new functions. However, some of these are harder to find than you might think. We’ll show you a few secret features of the console that you might not have known about.

Sometimes you’re in the middle of the game and you might have turned the system up a bit too high. But you still notice that your better half is trying to ask you a question. So far, it was now: reach for the remote control on the table and turn down the volume.

That’s enough of that! Because if you briefly hold down the small mute button on the DualSense controller, which is located directly under the PlayStation logo, you can silence the entire console in this way. Really practical!

Anyone who has clicked through the PS5 menu will find that the console no longer seems to have a browser on board ex works. If you still want to surf the net with your console, you have to accept a detour. To lure out the hidden one, have a friend send you a message via PSN with a link.

You can then open this and as if by magic, the PS5’s secret browser will launch! The problem with the thing: The browser is quite rudimentary. There isn’t even a URL bar to navigate you to another page. It’s a nice gimmick, but it won’t be of much use to you.

The PS5 controller is packed with new features and currently the highlight of the new console. The problem with the thing: The battery is empty within a few hours – that’s annoying!

If you don’t want to constantly connect your controller for charging, can disable the speakers of the peripheral device in the options. In this way you have to do without sound coming from your controller – but the good thing lasts a little longer than usual.

To do this, proceed as follows:

Navigate to the “Settings” of the PS5. Select the sub-item “Accessories” and then “Controller”. There you can now set the volume for the controller to 0 using the slider.

Another tip for saving battery: reduce the vibration of the controller and the intensity of the trigger effect. You can find the corresponding settings in the same menu.

Tired of going into the settings every time you start a game for the first time and tweaking them to suit your needs? Well, you don’t have to with the PS5 anymore! In the settings under the menu item “Saved data and game/app settings” under “Game preferences” you can specify which options you want to activate by default in your games.

This ranges from the level of difficulty to inverting the controls to the option of whether he prefers to play in performance or resolution mode.

In the same submenu you will also find the item “Spoiler warnings”. Do you activate the option you will be warned about game spoilers from now on. You can choose whether you want it to warn you about content that the developers have marked as spoilers or whether you prefer to keep everything away from you that you haven’t seen in the game yourself.

If you use the recording function of the PS5 and value the best possible image quality, you can make the appropriate settings under “Settings” -> “Recordings and transmissions” -> “Recordings” -> “Video clip format”. First select “Highest efficiency (WebM)” under “File type”, then you can switch from Full HD to 4K under “Resolution of the recording”.

The fact that PlayStation games can be installed on the console while on the move via the corresponding smartphone app is now old hat. However, the PS5 now goes a step further. Because if you don’t have enough storage space to install the game you want, you can throw other titles directly from the console via your smartphoneto make some space. Just awesome!

PS4 players are already familiar with it: when you receive a trophy, the console also takes a screenshot at the same time to capture a memento of your triumph. With the PS5, you can now instead save a short video clip with a maximum length of 30 seconds.

To activate the new function, go to “Recordings and Broadcasts” in the settings and then to “Trophies”.

A new feature of the PS5’s DualSense controller is the built-in microphone. With this you can not only talk to your friends when you are in a party, but you can also save yourself cumbersome typing.

In the text fields you can simply select the microphone symbol on the digital keyboard to activate voice input. A corresponding message will then appear in the text field, prompting you to speak into the microphone.

Tip: It is best to speak loudly and clearly so that voice recognition produces the best results.
