Protect your personal data and set sail with Iodé

Guaranteeing the confidentiality/protection of personal data is a growing issue for individuals and companies. To protect data / avoid incursions into privacy, iodé, a young French company, has developed a “de-googlized” Android system that automatically blocks cookies, advertisements and trackers on applications.

Android offers since version 11 to see which permissions are granted to which applications over a 24 hour periods (Settings>Privacy>Privacy Dashboard), bringing more transparency to the data collection carried out by the installed applications… But what about Google? A 2018 study shows that an unused Android smartphone (with Chrome open) shares its location to Google 340 times a day.

Your profile sold to the highest bidder…

Android, Gmail, YouTube, Maps, …: all these practical services are there to collect data about you and serve to draw up profiles, classify you and gauge you. If it’s free, you’re the product! And now your personal data is sold to the highest bidder: merchants of toothpaste, mowers, TV, canned soup, trips to Asia or video games. To stop the bleeding, the system Iodinean Android clone stripped of Google cookies, scans your applications in real time and protects your data transmissions.

A privacy-friendly alternative to Android

For connoisseurs, it is in fact a LineageOS ROM, which monitors security updates and compatibility with Android, on which iodé has:

  • got rid of Google cookies present in the system
  • implemented ad blocker/trackers on installed apps
  • added microG services, which allow the use of GApps, Google applications, with greater control of what comes out.

You are free to download your apps from the Google Play Store, but you can also do it from the F-Droid alternative store. And if you see that an app installed on your smartphone is a little too “curious”, uninstall it and look for a more discreet alternative…

A French and ecological product

Yes, but how to enjoy iodized then? iodé offers new telephones sold with the iodé system on the online store. There are smartphones with a high level of repairability and built with recyclable materials such as the Fairphone 3+ (and soon 4) and the Teracube 2E. But it is also possible to give a second life to a refurbished device. We find for example the Samsung Galaxy S9 equipped with iodéOS at 304 € or the Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite at 339 €. Iodé is a French product. Not only the software part was developed in France, but the smartphones offered by the brand are reconditioned in France.
