Porsche, what is that? Maserati turns sports car legend into an electric car
More and more manufacturers are converting their range to electric cars. Now the sports car legend Maserati is also there. In 2024, the Italians want to bring a new high-performance electromobility onto the market with the GranTurismo Folgore.
It’s a crux with e-cars: actually, electric motors are capable of extreme performance. At the same time, the Stromers often have a reputation for boredom, for emotionlessness, as if only pounding pistons and liters of burned fuel could bring driving fun. However, manufacturers are increasingly seeing things differently. This also applies to Maserati.
Maserati goes for e-car: GranTursimo becomes Stromern of the extra class
The sports car traditionalist from Italy will relaunch the GranTurismo model. In addition to two burner versions, there is also one as pure electric car planned, called GranTurismo Folgore, Italian for lightning. In contrast to models from the VW Group, for example, the electric sports car is not an independent development for the electric drive.
Nevertheless, the values should be convincing: The GranTurismo Folgore comes with three electric motors, a dual motor at the rear and a simple one on the front axle. Each of them is said to have an output of up to 300 kW. for charging 800 volt technology come into use. When planned 92.5 kWh battery should be sufficient for a quick performance at the fast charging station.
However, as befits a sports car, you want to be convincing on the move, not when stationary. Among other things, the T-shaped battery layout should ensure this. It leaves the space for the seats free and thus enables an extremely low structure and low center of gravity, according to Maseratis Message. With a height of 1.353 m, the GranTurismo the flattest electric car ever be.
Inside, the Italians rely on software developed entirely in-house, updates “over the air” and high digital security standards, which customers in the luxury class can rightly expect. An infotainment system will also be on board, as will a heads-up display, although the latter is optional.
The Maserati is nothing for savers, other electric cars are more suitable:
First electric car from Maserati: the most important questions remain unanswered
Maserati has already announced that it intends to electrify other models as well. However, with the planned presentation next spring for the GranTurismo Folgore and the market launch in 2024, this will be the first electric vehicle from the Italians. So far, however, two of the most important pieces of information have been kept to yourself: We don’t know the price and range yet. At least the former should not be without.
